Unwanted FPS monitor

So I've a small problem on my hands.
For one reason or another whenever I start up any game I get in the upper corners of my screen a FPS counter and a clock, in blaring yellow with a huge fat font.
Any ideas as to what might cause this and possible what I need to annihilate to be rid of it?

What games are you playing?  I know in Steam, you can type cl_showfps to toggle it.  Or maybe it's a weird feature of your video card if it happens outside a certain service like Steam.

Hmm.. might be it, don't think I have fraps though, but maybe Steam decided to "help" me and installed it
As to the games, it is in everything, Fallout 3, Eve, CoH, AoC, Civilization ect.

Problem found, X-fire was being a retard.
