Hey /comp/,
I don't know enough about computer architecture. Right now, I have a GeForce 8800 for gaming, plugged into PCIe 16x. I'm studying animation, and Autodesk recommends a workstation graphics card (such as nVidia Quadro), so I have a few questions.
1. What would happen if I got a PCIe 1x Quadro also? Would it run correctly in parallel with my 8800?
2. If I just had a workstation card, how would its performance compare to something like the 8800? I see there is a big difference in memory size ($160 for 128 MB Quadro)
3. Does a 64-bit card require a 64-bit OS? I only have copies of 32-bit Vista and XP.
By the way, my motherboard has just one PCIe 16x and three 1x. I don't know if this is typical.
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!
