Ahoy-hoy!

I have a problem with alt-codes:
They're not working properly. At all.

Say I want to blank post, I'd usually go alt+0173, right? When I do this, however, all I get is this: ♥
It seems like something just skips the first buttons I press, and only counts the last one. The same goes for any other combination: ☺☻♥♦♣♠•◘○. No "advanced" codes like A (alt+65, all I get is ♠).
