I started running linux on an old computer of mine, and I want to delete some old files that are in the old windows directories.  every time I try to delete them, it says they cannot be deleted it.  is there something else I need to do to clear up this space?

Sounds like you're still using old NTFS drivers.

delete your system32 folder
