Video acceleration under *nix?

What are my options for getting hardware decoding of h.264 under *nix?
It seems like XvMC only supports h.264 with Unichrome (I do have an old model, but I doubt it will be any good), and it doesn't seem like VAAPI has been implemented yet. Are there any other methods?

Why do you say ``*nix'' as if you mean anything other than Linux by it?

Because FreeBSD has an Nvidia driver, and the open source drivers aren't OS-specific.
