My ipod is fucked. Help me cheat Apple.

Name: Anonymous 2008-05-15 11:33

A few days ago I had my 80GB 6G in my bag and a bottle of water in another compartment. My iPod was still running while a leak in the bottle slowly soaked everything in my bag. I have no clue as to how long it was underwater but I turned it off the second I saw it drenched in water. Luckily my calculator only got water on the outside and most of my papers were on my desk. My Audio Technica can still work too.
I let it dry for two days and turned it on today. It showed the reset screen with the Apple logo but then moved to the screen with n 'X' logo on it and the url for Apple support.I ran the diagnostic tests and everything is running fine except for the hard disk and I can't get into disk mode so i assume that the hard disk is fucked.
As far as I know hard disks are pretty much sealed so I'm not sure if there's actual damage to the platter.
I don't want to have to buy another disk if I can get away with it. I heard that denatured alcohol removes mineral deposits and evaporates leaving no trace.
If I soak it in denatured alcohol and let it dry do you think that apple tech will write it off as a hard disk failure and fix it for free? If not then how much do you think repairing it will cost?
If repair is close enough to getting a 5.5G I'll go for that because there are so many mods.

Soaking it in gasoline would be better.

and letting sparks touch it. It would help apple test the robustness of their software AND hardware.

Why not try it anyway?

And if you are drinking bottled water that leaves mineral deposits either you just filled the bottle with tap water or you are paying for expensive, per-bottled tap water.

NO NO NO NO NO YOU ALL FAIL.

They check water damage by looking at a small piece of color changing paper thats hidden inside the earbud jack. Its white when not wet.. Turns another color when wet.. So how do we bypass this? You cut a small piece of tissue paper or cloth and push it down in there over the sensor.. When they flash the light down to see if it got wet it will show white.. Meaning the damage wasnt cause by water..

Great.. No water damage.. Wheres my new ipod? Ok smartass now you just tell them the device all of the sudden stopped working and you demand a refund or a new ipod. Win, they have to. Fuck the system.
