OK, so I've got ubuntu and one day all the sound just stops working, even though all the sound settings say that it is and I haven't changed any hardware. Any suggestions?

Same as for Windows. Reinstall. Or you could just use a real OS.
try going through the configuration (alsaconf)again.Also download the internets(Saerch every possible keyword at google and ubuntu forums)
