Starcraft over PPTP VPN connection.

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-17 0:16

Has anyone ever got Starcraft to do a LAN game (UDP) over the WAN using a PPTP service like PoPToP?  I heard it's one of the few VPN daemons that supports broadcast packet relay, but even after getting it completely set up my VPN clients cannot see games that I host.

Tried BattleLan or (blug)Hamachi?

Just tonight I tried Hamachi by itself, didn't work.  But when I used BattleLan over Hamachi, that worked.  SO WHAT THE FUCK?

How do YOU go about playing SC off of bnet?

Yes, it works perfectly with Vista clients.  But XP clients can't see the games.

THIS.

Those are the only conditions under which it will work.  You need you need Hamachi for the VPN (you can use any PPTP service you like, including PoPToP or even the VPN service that comes with windows) that will give you a connection to the other computers, and then you need a TARGETED BROADCAST PACKET RELAY PROGRAM, such as BATTLELAN.  Battlelan is the essential ingredient.  By default, no VPN service will relay broadcast packets from one network to the other, so games you host will not appear to remote users.  But with Battlelan, any IP address you specify will get a copy of all broadcast packets from coming from your machine, therefore giving them the ability to see your hosted games.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
