Long story short, I partitioned my main HDD and put Vista on one of the partitions because I needed it for class. After much hard failing on Vistas part, I got rid of that partition and re-allocated my free space.
However, now I still get an OS boot menu...and it seems to think that XP is installed twice on that HDD that was previously partitioned. When I choose the second XP (the one that shouldn't be there), I get an error saying that it's corrupt and I should re-install.
While trying to get rid of Vista, there were about 2 gigs worth of folders on my XP partition that seemed to be an extremely crippled copy of windows or something to do with the dual boot. I moved them to the recycle bin to see if they were critical, and everything ran fine. When I did bootcfg /scan, it was still reading them as a copy of windows in the recycler folder, so I got rid of them completely.
However, the boot menu is still saying I have XP installed twice. I've tried bootcfg /rebuild, and it says that it doesn’t detect any installed instances of Windows.
I've also used a Restore Point to get all the system files back to how they were before I partitioned for Vista, but after I went back to that point, it said that no changes were actually made to my computer.
How the hell do I get rid of that boot menu/ghost copy of XP? I don't feel like babysitting my computer while it's booting up so I can hit enter or waiting that extra minute for it to load the default (which is thankfully the working copy of XP).
