STOLEN MAC

Recently me and my brother found an old Mac lying on the side of the road (thrown out, cause you know its a mac), so we decided to take it home, 'cause my brother doesn't have a comp yet, so I figured we should just get him the piece of shit. But the person throwing it away left all the account stuff on it, including the password.
Is there a way to crack the password? Is there an easy way to reinstall the OS(panther 10.3.5) without the disks? Thanks if you can be fucked helping out.
PS, the password is 7 letters and the clue is "abbreviation".
