I've had my computer for almost 3 years now without getting any upgrades or anything. Now, I know this baby's good enough on its own, but I've noticed that whenever I download something, the highest (total) download rate I can get is just over 300kb/s.

Why the hell is this happening? Even if I'm connected to 2000 seeds on BT, as soon as it breaks 300 the speed starts to drop. Is there anything I need to do with XP to fix this?

In b4 delete system32.

OP here.

It's not shit, but it's not exactly a custom tuned dream machine either. Pentium 4, 512MB RAM, 2 CPUs both around 2.8GHz each.

probably your ISP is choking torrent traffic.  try changing your port to something else.

this is assuming your internet connection isn't capped at 300kb/s across the board, which is not uncommon for 'lite' high speed accounts.

Comcast.

Don't change these.
