hdd encryption

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-23 0:12

i just installed a new Linux distro on my laptop and decided to use encryption on the /home partition. what i want to know is, if Linux ever fails to boot, are there any other programs i can use to access the encrypted partition if i were to install it in another computer?

hard drive encryption relies on a key to decrypt.  so long as you don't lose said key, a similar linux distro with the same encryption software will still work.

dunno if there's any software avaiable for non-linux installs to access an encrypted linux partition.  hard enough to view an unencrypted linux partition as it is.

No, not really.

The question is: would one want to expose one's system to the AIDS ridden whore that is Windows?

Don't change these.
