Recycling Notebook Display

Name: :D 2007-11-19 16:46

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has heard of reusing a notebook LCD as a stand-alone monitor.

My display is at 1920x1200 and has a little camera built in.  It would be nice to be able to detach it and use it for my next system in a couple years.

It has to be possible, but is it practical?  I have a soldering iron, that's a start!

not too sure about the practical part.

i mean, it's not like there's gonna be a fucking dvi/vga plug and port inside the laptop.

probably just some ribbons.

Even if you got it to work, you realise laptop LCDs are fucking tiny, right? They mays usually have higher native resolutions than stand-alone LCDs, but if you use that resolution and put a laptop LCD at the same distance from your face as a regular monitor, you aren't going to see shit.

I don't think you thought your plan through.

I did a little searching, and this came up:

Sounds like quite the project.

It is 17" diagonal and only 1" shorter vertically than my 19" CRT sitting next to it.  I use my notebook as my primary computer and sit two-three feet away from it.  I can see it just fine.

I don't think you thought your comment through.

Don't change these.
