I hate Vista.

So, I just picked up a new laptop. It has Vistaids. This is the problem:

I want Starcraft: Brood War on this bitch. I've lost my original SC CD, so I can't install it. I could torrent it, but I don't want to spend fucking ages with my shitty bandwidth. In the past, I've been able to simply copy the SC directory and registry entries over when migrating to a new computer. I can't do it this time around. I've copied pretty much every registry entry from my older XP computer to this one, but Battle.net can't identify my application version.

tl;dr, I need working registry entries for Starcraft: Brood War from another anon that has properly installed the game on Vista, or some other solution that doesn't require I get XP or buy the game again.

Also, /v/ is not very helpful.

I don't think the battle.net forums would have topics on subjects that would easily allow people to pirate the game unless moderation is really, really shitty.

In the time that you will spend waiting for an answer, you can torrent the CD.  Do that and GTFO.  Also consult the following on Wikipedia and Google: How to Use a PC, How Not To Lose Your Game Discs, and How To Move Out Of Your Mother's Basement Before You Turn 40.  Also, cocks.

The version is most likely in a text file with in the program files. Also go to "Properties -> compatibility -> Windows XP service pack 2" on the .exe

If it's 64-bit Vista, the issue may be that you are copying registry entries for a 32-bit program into the 64-bit registry.  Try using the Wow6432Node... for example, if the registry entry is [HKLM\Software\Fags] on the old machine, copy it to [HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Fags].

Now let's see... that took about 2 minutes, and my standard consulting rate is $180/hr, so that will be $6 plx.

Put linux on it if you cant downgrade to XP or 2K. Once you get linux running, use a v-pc program like wine or qmu.

Don't change these.
