Looking for a file organization program.

Anyone know of some good programs for organizing files? I'm looking for something that would allow me to cross-reference/index files on my hard drive, similar to a "tag" system.

Total Commander has this neat feature called "folders". You should check it out.

Maybe I should explain better, I frequent /r/ and try to fill requests when I can. I have thousands if not tens of thousands of files that I have to sort through. And any single thing might be related to several subjects, and I can't afford to waste space by  copying file to all related folders. If I had something like a database program that combines the ease of use of a simple file browser like explorer (windows explorer not IE) with the ability to cross-reference files it would make my life a lot easier.

Most filesystems support shortcuts or equivalent.

Use EXT3, make hard links.

In b4 Reiserfags.

I run windows, I don't have any version of Linux installed right now, though I will be installing it after I reformat my system sometime in the next month. I would welcome any recommendations as to which build I should install.

For the meantime, if there is any windows compatible software I can use for organizing, let me know.

Thanks, that looks good, Is that available in XP Home? I noticed the webpage said it was documentation for XP Pro. Also, do you know if that works for FAT32 formated drives? I'm going to be reformatting to NTFS soon anyway, but I might mess around with it in the meantime.

Does anyone know of a program to streamline the hardlinking process in XP so I don't have to do it all from command prompt?

It will not work on FAT or FAT32; it is specifically for NTFS.
This page gives a quick summary and the name of a program that allows hardlinking through Explorer:

I've never used it, so just be reasonably wary, though the site is good.

Don't change these.
