Time to update

I just got a desktop computer which outperforms my laptop in every aspect except "Let's see who can hang up on retarded shit the most"

I've had this laptop for a good 2.5 years now and I've never wiped the harddrive. Despite routine maintenance, it's started to finally slow down.

I want to wipe the harddrive. Start fresh. But the new desktop can be for gaming (and I'm already familiar enough with Windows) so I'm looking to start into something linux.

1.30 ghz processor, currently running 256 ram (but Imma upgrade soon)

tl;dr I'm looking for a good linux based system to run off the specs above.

Any linux distribution will run fine. Just make sure to get as much information about your hardware as possible. If you run into problems you're going to need that information.

As for which distribution to use... you'll probably want to start out with Ubuntu or OpenSuSE if you're new to linux. After some time, when you notice that you don't really like certain aspects of those and have learned more about how linux works, you might consider trying Debian, Gentoo, Slackware or others.

Also: in b4 "my distribution is better than yours even though I've never tried any other one" shitfest.
