New Computer

We've recently bought a new computer and we have dial-up. lol

Usually when I downloaded on the old computer we got 4-5 kb/per second.

NOW when I download it only goes at 100 bytes to 1 kb per second. We had anti-spyware and anti-virus installed when we got it, and on the old comp we had none.

Could this be why the download speed is so slow, and is it possible to turn anti-spyware and virus off while I download then turning them back on? Help me /comp/

i would run a speed test, if indeed your dl speed is slow, try using opera instead of your dial-up's "built-in" browser.

most built-in's are based off ie 4, opera is aprox 350%-400% faster

get out of 1994 with your dialup or kill yourself

I'd say your anti-spyware, anti-virus and Windows itself are using all your bandwidth downloading updates. No vendor considers dialup users any more. Uninstall your anti-spyware and anti-virus, surf safe, and disable automatic, background Windows updates. You can run Windows update manually when you want to instead.

Don't change these.
