hey, im a wowfag who goes to a boarding school that uses a proxy server.
i use sockscap to tunnel through so i can play wow.
last year this setup worked fine, no latency problems.
this year im often hitting 15000 latency while raiding which obviously is a huge inconvenience.
ive tried everything within my knowledge of computers to try and discover the cause.
so far i have ruled out the following possible causes,
the school network
spyware/malware
im fairly sure the problem is not the hardware, i suspect some settings are causing it to conflict with the proxy. the reason i do not suspect hardware is that i used this laptop all summer with 0 problems and the very first day i started playing at this school is when the problems began.
some things that might help a diagnosis.
Network adapters:
Marvell yukon PCI-E gigabit ethernet controller (enabled)
Bluetooth LAN access server driver (disabled)
Airgo networks AGN300 true MIMO(tm) Wireless adapter (disabled)
1394 net adapter (disabled)
my situation improved for one night after disabling those 3, but the very next day i was having the same problems.
the latency fluctuates widely, from 150 ms to 15000 ms. it usually gets bad in data heavy encounters (boss fights).
i checked the marvell site for the latest drivers for the network adapter but i wasnt able to find the exact model that my laptop has.
many internets to the man who can solve this problem.
