dear comp
I followed your advice and changed to Opera (from firefox), but i fail to see why its better. mouse gestures are nice but seems no faster thank firefox for starting up or browsing, so whats the advantage? or is it just a fashion thing

it doesn't eat up ram and is more reliable and faster as well
>>2
you can use both in Opera

How do I select text in Opera?  Clicking furiously just brings up some stupid menu for Mactards that only have one button.

Opera is WAYYYY faster.  I've used it on a 400Mhz computer and it was totally useable, faster than IE.  Had good experiences with it on a hacked Xbox under Linux, which only has 64MB RAM.

Firefox has more features and extensions though.  Startup time isn't a big issue with multiple tabs as I usually keep the same instance open all day.  I stick with Firefox unless I need to browse on low end systems.

Ninety open tabs and just as fast as always. Memory usage: 60MB. Try doing that with Firefox.

Why do you have ninety tabs open?  I think you need to reexamine your assumptions.

Fora, threads, porn, reference sites for whatever I'm working on, etc. It really provides a much faster workflow than bookmarking everything and loading on demand.

i tested opera and firefox 2 on an 800 Mhz p3 with 256Megs of ram. firefox was faster but used a little more ram. opera is just a fad and it'll go away soon.

Opera has always been a fad. Seriously it's really old I don't know why you guys are so amazed. "OH MAH GOD OPERA'S DEFAULT CACHE SETTINGS ARE LOWER THAN FIREFOXES" /jerkalert

Dumb.

Why don't you kids go to tweakguides and tweak out your Microsoft Word too? I heard Notepad takes up less cycles though. Just sayin.

Opera has been around longer than Mozilla, not to mention Firefox. Some fad.

Up until the more recent branches of FireFox, the differences were a LOT more noticeable.. you could rearrange tabs, it was significantly faster starting up, it kept track of closed tabs, and had a bunch of other little neat things. Now, with Fx having added a lot of them, as well as extensions, its back to personal preference.

One of my favorite things is that RightClick then LeftClick or vice-versa allows you to go back/forward, and with caching, it's really quick. It also has a few neat ways to change the way a page is displayed that's good for testing, if you're a web developer.

Don't change these.
