Cleaning the registry?

Name: Anonymous 2007-09-18 12:40 ID:4qNIVN3B

Hey guys. I figure before I mess something up I should ask first. My computer gave me some new error this morning, something along the lines of "Your maximum registry size is too small. Please increase it to make sure Windows runs properly." So I picked up a registry cleaning program to get rid of the old useless stuff and make room.

Sounds good, right? So since working with the registry isn't for newbies, is there something safe I can use, just to get rid of anything that isn't important? Or will all programs potentially mess things up if you set it to "auto clean" for example?

If you've done this sort of thing before I would appreciate a bit of advice on the matter. Or if you have a favorite program that you use? That'd be great too. Thanks.

Just increase the maximum fucking size of your registry. What the fuck.

So I shouldn't bother to clean it out anyways?

I used Crap Cleaner and my system didn't get fucked up.  There are others that get high marks.  Maybe RegClean.

You should bother to keep your system somewhat clean or just reinstall Windows every 6-12 months. Everything else is a waste of time.

Hi, I use Linux.  My /etc directory doesn't try to take over my hard drive.  Ever.  I have a lot of dot files in my home directory, but if I ever wanted to delete them, I could, and my system would still boot.  Thank you.

just delete the registry.  the system works fine without it, and viruses have a harder time taking hold.
