Disconnecting VGA from video card in use?

Is it safe to disconnect the VGA cable used by the monitor hooked to the video card while they are in use?

I have done it many times before and it has never caused me any problems on both new and old hardware.

It can be done, but make sure you aren't playing any games while you do it as you will end up with little game sprites escaping throught the plug, and you will need to call pest control to round up your little marios
