How do you torrent?

I downloaded azureus expecting it to be a program where you paste in the link for what you want to torrent and it uploads for you, but all it does is give me a website with loads of unfunny or boring ass 100 mb to 1 gigabyte commercials and documentaries. Several times I've decided "I'm going to learn how to torrent" only to find 100 page FAQ's which don't really say anything useful at all and programs which "might" require you to type in a astydjyturt## number in order to work but when you enquire as to what the fuck a astydjyturt## number is the faggots on their irc channel bitchily link you back to their useless faq without saying anything else as if you are the one doing the frustrating.

Someone please give me a step by step guide of what you usually do when you want to torrent something. Something like this hopefully...

1: copy link
2: open wondertorrent.exe
3: paste link into big text bar which appears right at the front of the program's window
4: wait for it to download
5: go to downloads file where the file is there waiting for me

Either you're trolling or you're asking for help on some of the simplest shit around.  And something tells me that you wouldn't help seed if I told you how, so screw that idea.

Eh, I'm not really surprised that someone has a hard time figuring it out.  A lot of people suck at teaching things.  I'll try to help.

By "want to torrent something" I assume you mean you found a torrent of something and you want to start downloading the content.  (The other possibility would be that you have content and want to create a new torrent).

1) Download and install a "torrent client" (e.g., uTorrent)
 
2) Download the .torrent file.  It will be a very small file because the .torrent file doesn't contain the actual content. 

What the .torrent file contains is the address of the "tracker" and a "hash" for the content.  The tracker is a server which helps everyone in the torrent talk to each other.   A "hash" is an identifier for the content, it lets your computer know that you actually did download the content and not a slightly modified version and not some completely unrelated file.

3) Open your torrent client (e.g., uTorrent).  Using some menu option or clicking some button you can tell the torrent program to open the .torrent file.  (e.g. in uTorrent you would go to file>>Add Torrent then browse your computer and select the .torrent file)

Usually this is it.  Somewhere in the torrent client (probably the main window area) it will show the download progress, your download and upload rate, your share ratio and so forth.  Somewhere else in the torrent client (either in some preference menu or listed in the torrent properties in the main area) it will say where the downloaded file is being put on your computer.  Most commonly the torrent program asks you for an explicit folder to put the downloaded file when you first open the .torrent file (e.g., uTorrent does this).  If it doesn't ask you then it is probably putting it into a default "download folder" in the directory of the torrent program.

Sometimes, however, there are more than these 3 steps.  Installing the torrent program isn't always enough to get torrents to "just work" right away:

1) You'll probably have to make sure that the torrent program isn't blocked by your firewall (I think windows will prompt you the first time the torrent program tries to use your connection).
 
2) You may need to set "port forwarding", which has to do with routers and permitting packets to be sent back and forth through your torrent client.  I can give you this link:

3) Finally, you may need to configure "speed settings", i.e. tell the torrent program what your average upload bandwidth is so it can manage your connection optimally.
