I have a computer monitor that has both the computer's VGA cable connected to it aswell as my Xbox 360's component cables connected to it. What I'd like to know is if there is any way to take a screenshot of what's on my screen when I'm playing Xbox 360 without the need to buy any software or anything.
No, #1. The xbox output to the monitor is just a set of signals that change each millisecond and the monitor just displays them in real time. They're not stored, and neither are they piped down your computer's cable. A monitor is an output device, with minor exceptions for status signals and piggybacking of USB and sound ports.
You'd have to pipe the xbox output to some sort of graphics input/output (GIO?) card that you'd install into your computer. The GIO card is probably a standard item for people who do graphics work like video editing. Google it for a while and get some idea.
Of course, you could always just aim a webcam at the screen and take snapshots that way. You'll have to play around with settings and the environment to get a usable screenshot.
