SBC DSL

I switched from Time Warner Cable to ATT/SBC DSL with the 3Mbps plan. Eveything works fine for about 40 minutes or so and then everything loses connection and I'm forced to hard reset the modem. The total speed of torrents running doesn't even exceed 50kb/s. I've tried pinging the modem when the connection dies and it loses all the packets. I'm also behind a router but I doubt it's causing the problem because I can ping it and it always worked fine when I had Time Warner. Am I stuck with a shitty modem that can't handle enough connections or what the fuck? It's a Speedstream 4100B.

Keep your max upload speed just below your incoming bandwidth, and vice versa for your outgoing bandwidth.

Your modem's config page should have your bandwidths on it.  In your case, it's 3Mbps out and probably 384Kbps in.

So I would cap your downloads at 350KB/s download (incoming) and uploads at 40KB/s (outgoing).  May improve things.
