Booting Problem

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-20 20:28 ID:/+aiKyYS

Okay, so my motherboard died and I replaced it along with a new processor. I turn it on and try to boot from a CD so I can do a clean install but it won't boot to the CD and instead takes me to a screen that has the following options: Start Windows in Safe Mode, Start Windows Normally, Use Last Known Working Configuration, ect. Choosing any of the options only makes my computer restart and it's the same thing all over again. Any help would be appreciated.

Your windows installation is uhh..."tailored" to your mother board
so if you change them then windows wont boot. to keep your old installation then boot up your windows cd and try to install a new version and it should find the old installation. Then press 'r' to repair the old installation and rewrite all the system config files then the old installation will work (All that was FYI).

As for booting from the cd for a fresh installation then read all the information on the screen when the computer first boots up. It should say something like "press del to enter setup" (or f12 or f2 or something like that). Look for your boot devices in the setup screen. You can set the order of boot devices from
there(hard drive, floppy drive, cdrom drive, LAN, etc.) Set it so the cdrom drive boots first , save, and restart. The screen should then say something like "Press a key to boot cd...".

I had all that set up correctly. Turned out to be a bad CD drive. Thanks anyway.

Don't change these.
