I'm new to *nix. Been playing with Ubuntu the last two months. Downloading Kubuntu at the moment. I've been reading that KDE is more noob friendly, but is less stable. Anyone have a preference one way or another? Also, what advantages/disadvantages have you seen in each? Thanks.

The best thing would be to try both as well as the various other windows managers and or desktop environments to find one you like.
Some popular windows managers include:
Fluxbox
Openbox
Blackbox
Ratpoison
evilwm
(each are minimalistic in nature)
Popular desktop environments are:
KDE
(Setup very similar to Windows, but in a Linux way)
Gnome
(Setup similar to the MacOS)
Xfce
(setup to be a seperate desktop environment like KDE or Gnome)
For the record Gnome is supposed to be the easier to use (between KDE and Gnome), however KDE many seem more familiar (and thus seem easier to use) do to its imitation of the Windows start menu.
