So, /comp/, what are some of your favourite apps? Mine are...
foobar2000 + Media Player Classic for media. Picasa2 for photo organising/editing/back-up (to web albums). I get a lot of use out of Steganos Locknote and Eraser too.

For image viewing and basic editing (colors, resizing, brightness, etc) I use thumbsplus. It's pretty awesome, and it has some nifty features like a webpage thumb gallery wizard, finds similar images, and things like that. I use deadaim for my laptop when I'm at work, which is basically an addon/extension for AIM; I use it cause it has a feature that makes the windows (buddylist or IM) transparent when they aren't in focus. :> I also like winkill, which is a tiny program that sits in the tray. Rightclick it, and it gives you a list of processes running or windows opened, select it and it kills it. It's a lot more agressive than task manager. I use maxthon which is like a shell for internet explorer. I don't prefer firefox because it tends to mess up tables pretty good, and is generally just slower. Maxthon has a LOT of great features as well as the basics. Most images that it detects as advertisements are displayed as the text: [Img Advertisement] or something similar. The popup blocker is a lot better than the standard internet explorer and firefox built-ins.
* Metapad. Written in C. Kilobytes. Pwns Notepad.
* XnView. Irfanview + easy mode.
* HydraIRC. Only not completely crappy IRC I could find. Somewhat crappy. Customize away most of the crap.
* μTorrent. Good stuff.
* WinDirStat. Visual representation of hard disk usage. Helps me not waste time when spring cleaning.
* SarbyxTrayClock. Because I want the date but I don't want a two-line taskbar. Most of the skins are shit, I just use one with large, readable text.
* Foxit Reader. Light PDF reader.
* 7-Zip. Not the friendliest, but small and no-nonsense.
Firefox extensions even though you didn't ask: Adblock, BugMeNot, and Mouse Gestures are fundamental; Link Alert and SmartSearch are useful. Rikaichan if you're a raging weeaboo.
