Any advice on routers? I'm in the market for one in my new house so I can get wireless access throughout.

Yeah, I know there's a difference between the two... HOWEVER, internet speeds are advertised and rated in megabits. I know for certain that I have broken the 6 megabit barrier by downloading at TWO MEGABYTES per second before I installed my router. Now, after the router is installed, it limits the bandwidth to 500 Kilobytes per second.
What I'm asking for is recommendations of a router that does not have this low a cap without the need to resort to custom firmware.
