FF7 on xp

ok i know i can count on 4chan for this, trying to run FF7 on xp just loads to a blank screen, obviously this is the video codec (duck or something) but iv already reinstalled that and several patches.

the other way i tried was on a virtual machine running win98 but i couldnt get the drivers for my sound card to install (soundmax onboard).

does anyone know a way around either of these?
