I'm looking for a decent mp3 player for up to EUR 100, which should equal about 120$.
As I like to work on several different systems, having no extra software to install (i.e. the device should act as a removable mass-storage device) would be a great feature.
The audio quality is of quite some concern to me, being one of the reasons why I refrain from buying these ultimately cheap things which are now being sold almost everywhere.
I don't really care about large displays, as long as browing the directory tree is not too much of a hassle.
Any recommendations?
Whilst I do appreciate your comment, the SupportPlus is not what I'm looking for; not only is the price range entirely different, but also is it, as can be read in several reviews, a bit on the cheap side in terms of workmanship, i.e. it does fall in the category of "these ultimately cheap things which are now being sold almost everywhere."
And this is what I just don't want.

Aren't there any other opinions?
The 4 GB Creative Zen V seems to look quite interesting, but I can barely find any valuable reviews; it all sounds like it came just straight from the marketing department. As I prefer having some alternatives to chose from, I'd really appreciate some more suggestions.

.. what on earth are you talking about?
It supports mp3, wma, ogg, can pick up the radio, can record sound. This is probably the best bang you'll get for your buck that isn't riddled and crawling with corporate greed

You can't go wrong with Creative. To save money you might want to go for an older Muvo rather than a Zen V. However if you have large hands DO NOT get the V...it is a fine player but can be a pain to use if you have long fingers/big hands.

If you want freedom with your mp3 player then go with a korean company. I personally always buy iaudio (also called COWON) although I've heard nice things about iriver.
