Help with custom building a workstation

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-02 17:15 ID:OdoHibrq

Just need some advice with some hardware for a work-centric desktop. I could really give two shits about gaming, just looking for something that can crunch a lot of numbers for a reasonable price. Will mostly be used for ArcGIS/Programming.

I'm not looking to overclock, since I'm looking for a stable and  consistent desktop to work on. I know all you overclock fags luv the C2D's for this, so would it even be worth the premium price of getting one? Any other info would be great!

Get a PSP since you're a clueless fuck anyway.

The motherboard you want is from TYAN. Build everything around that.

Separate CPUs each have their own path to RAM.  Also, the individual cores in multi-core cpus also share various other sections of the cpu.  These are not shared in a multi-cpu situation, thereby increasing performance.

Each cpu has their own l2 cache. Multicore cpus may or may not share l2 cache.
