Processor

So, how does one go about choosing a processor? I've decided to build a computer to familiarize myself with hardware, and this is really the one thing I know nothing about. My mobo is AM2, and I'm thinking of getting a dual core. But beyond that, I'm lost. HALP?

yeah, get a chep old P4 with ddr ram (screw rambus) and some half shitty gfx card, for the tasks you will be preforming ram and processor GHz is what's needed.
I dont know of any video editing program that uses two or more cores and the argument "but what if i want to listen to music and encode video at the same time" is invalid since it will only slow the video encodeing process down by a minute at most.
