I have a question about flash drives

Name: Anonymous 2007-06-12 11:18 ID:mq2x0HnS

sorry I don't know where I should ask this.

I recently bought a flash disk (sony micro vault, 8GB). It worked for a couple of days then suddenly it can't be accessed. The computer detects it but I can't open it. There are no dialogue boxes opening up, more specifically, there's a message "Insert a disk in drive e:", when I format it it says that there is no disk in drive e:.I tried to use the program killdisk.exe because it fixed my flash drive problem a couple of months ago, now the program can't detect it. I opened up the flash disk's properties window and it said that there are 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free. Can anyone tell me what's the problem and how should I fix it?If no one can answer it, can anyone tell me forums where I should ask these kinds of questions?

Thanks! If anyone can solve my problem you will have all of my internets!

download a knoppix live cd and boot into it

then insert the flash drive

then go to a terminal and type "dmesg" and that might clue you in on what exactly is wrong

Ignore these fuckers, except for #2, he's cool.  Go to http://www.ubuntu.com/. Download the newest ISO, make a CD, etc.  It will allow you to boot into Ubuntu as a live CD.  Go to "System", "Administration", "GNOME Partition Editor".  Then you should be able to check the partition info on your flash disk, modify it, etc.  If you're unsuccessful there, then return the flash disk to the store and get a replacement.
