I'm currently running a 256RAM Pentium III piece of shit.

Running Firefox and winamp (with the classic skin) lags like a bitch.

How can improve my computers' response speeds without buying a new processor?

Oh, you're just talking about "for its time," compared to P2.  Well, I agree.  Even Celerons were overclocking beasts compared to AMD's stuff in the P2 days, but Athlon classic and especially Thunderbird easily surpassed P3 in the later years.
