ITT Tablet PCs

I've been looking at tablet reviews for a few days, and there appear to be some decent machines in this price range.  I'm a student, and since .pdf or .ppt is now the standard for notes in almost every class, I thought I might get a tablet instead of a desktop.

couple of points:
- Is there that big a difference between active/passive digitizer?

- I also have a hueg CRT at home, but tablets all have max resolutions of about 1024 or so, and integrated gfx.  If I wanted to use this thing to double as a desktop computer, am I pretty much stuck with a low resolution?

- If anyone has any good models or advice it would be appreciated.  ty.
