I want to get into linux and was thinking about starting with gentoo. Is it touring complete?

In 2007, where nearly everything is modular, compiling every damn package of your system is stupid. Not that bad, just a waste of time. Install a binary distro and compile specific things that needs to be patched or things like that if you want to. Debian and Archlinux have tools to do that. Or FreeBSD.

After fucking up my install with that wonderful emerge world command, i'm switching to arch. I followed the instructions in the wiki, but i must have messed up the config file merging step, because now X won't start and my ATI drivers won't compile. FAIL. I'm printing out the entire arch linux install manual right now.

Yes, I use Gentoo. So? I dont see any problem. I embraced my Gentoo distro long ago and I am happy together with my workstation (that is a stage 1 box!). I have a fucking lot of ebuilds in and outside of portage and my CFLAGS are pretty optimized and solid.

But thanks anyway asshole. Go and use your stupid Debian while I EMERGE new ebuilds.
