New Motherboard

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-17 11:46 ID:PmYLTq7z

So, I just replaced my motherboard from my frankenstein HP computer.  It's just an inexpensive Foxconn, seeing as I only wanted to replace the board (needed socket 754, agp, DDR 400).  Now, it works.  Mostly.  I have a few problems I can't seem to figure out.  If /comp/ could give me any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

First, my USB keyboard does not work in BIOS or windows setup but works the rest of the time just fine.  My PS/2 keyboard works fine all of the time.  It's not an old motherboard, so I wouldn't suspect this problem, but is this something I just have to deal with due to poor USB support?

Another thing: on the boot screen it lists my memory as being DDR 200 (o_0a).  It recognizes all of it (1.5 GBs) but it thinks it's a strange speed.  My motherboard was also designed for DDR 400 as is listed in the manual.  WTF?  Could this be fixed by reorgnainizing my memory (say, my 1 GB stick in the 1st bay)?

And the last thing: I wasn't able to repair my existing OS- WinXP home as all I have for that are recovery disks and the only OEM I have is XP pro, so I instead installed my OS on my recovery partition.  Now, I don't mind this, but I was wondering if there was a way to delete all of my indows files/system files on my old, main partition without doing it by hand or deleting my data that is on there.  Possible or no?

Thanks.

Sounds like you got what you payed for as far as motherboards go. Try something like Abit or Asus. Or MSI.

foxconn are actually pretty damn good. you'll find foxconn have manufactured for other mobo makers for over 10yrs anyway...

depends on the board you got though. same with the big brand names, you get what you pay for.

>_>  There are no other options.  It was Biostar, Foxconn, or no-name ultra-cheap board in the way of what I needed.  I spent the absolute most on a board that fit what I needed.  I can't afford to rebuild my system.  I know Asus and ABit are good mobo manufacturers, (well, asus is overpriced) but I'll be damned if I can find them making a socket 754 w/ agp board.

Now, I know these problems can somehow be fixed.  I just thought I ask comp if there was something easy before I spent hours trying to fix it.   And really, it's not that bad of a board.  Good documentation, good construction, good support...

Why are you using a USB keyboard anyway?

The rest of this shit is just so incoherent or senseless that I feel no need to entertain it.

USB keyboards are superior -- using them mean you can remove the legacy PS/2 ports and instead put everything on one bus -- keeping down power, size, and if there's something else that is the most important in computing.

WOW YOU JUST REDUCED THE POWER CONSUMPTION OF YOUR COMPUTER BY .01 WATT WHOOPTY-FUCKING DOO

.01 watts * 100 million = 1 million watts. All the little numbers add up

No need to entertain it?  I think you're just a useless n00b who doesn't know a SCSI port from his ass.  Although I suppose they both share a similar charateristic, one in name, the other in odor and appearance.

In short, lern 2 read.  Honestly, What was the point in replying at all?  Just to prove your obvious superiority and l33t english h4x?  GTFO, you plague.

And really, USB hate?  What does it matter?  With any decent keyboard nowadays you have no choice.  USB is the future.  No, wait...USB is now.  PS/2?  Welcome to 1998.

USB bus probably takes more power and CPU usage. You'd probably waste power.

*sigh* and here I had the vain hope that you would rephrase your question into something worthwhile (or get a fucking clue and google).

Your complaints mainly tell me that you're too stupid to be working on computers, if you can't determine what speed your RAM runs at even.  Dumbass, there is no DDR200.  Of course, you have no clue what frequency DDR400 actually RUNS at, so I guess this is to be expected. After all, you actually entertain that rearranging three dimms in a different configuration is going to change things (failing to realize that it would take no more than three test cases to determine that "Oh, this isn't changing anything- I'm a moron".)

That you can't figure out how to enable legacy USB (which I suspect to be your problem) even WITH the "Good documentation, good construction, good support" just fucking baffles me.

As for data management, figure that shit out on your own- you can't have your hand held all the time.

Anyways, >>1, please listen to me. Not that it's really related to this conversation. I went to Wal-Mart to check out USB keyboards a while ago; you know, USB? Well anyways there was an insane number of people buying it, and I could hardly find anything still in stock. Then, I looked at the price tag posted at the top of the keyboard, and it had "$29" written on it. Oh, the stupidity. Those idiots. You, don't come to USB just because everything is on one bus, fool. It's only extra money for crying out loud. There're even entire families here. Family of 4, typing stuff, huh? How fucking nice. "Alright, daddy's gonna run it on USB only" God I can't bear to watch. You people, I'll give you my 8042's if you get off of this bandwagon. Walmart is a bloody place. That tense atmosphere, where two nerds or large black females on opposite sides of the aisles can start chocking each other with old Model-M keyboard cables, The stab-or-be-stabbed mentality, that's what's great about PC hardware. Women and children and large black females should screw off and stay home. Anyways, I was about to start bringing clarity to my world, enjoying the the ABSOLUTELY NO ADVANTAGES A USB KEYBOARD BRINGS YOU, and then the bastard beside me goes "I'm gonna use a USB over Ethernet converter for my keyboard" Who in the world uses that, you moron? I want to ask him, "do you REALLY want to to have your keyboard depending on your network performance" I want to interrogate him. I want to interrogate him for roughly an hour. Are you sure you don't just want the latest and greatest for no reason at all? Coming from a veteran such as myself, the latest trend among us vets is this, CHEAP KEYBOARDS. That's right, CHEAP KEYBOARDS. It takes advantage of the price, in a way that you don't need the placebo effect for. But on the other hand you need a PS/2 port. This is the key. And then, it's delicious. This is unbeatable. However, if you do this this then there is danger that you'll be marked by the salespeople from next time on; it's a double-edged sword. I can't recommend it to amateurs. What this all really means, though, is that you, >>1, should just learn about NOT WASTING A USB PORT ON A FUCKING KEYBOARD.

Okay, again, please learn to read and interpret.  I mentioned it coming up as DDR 200 BECAUSE I KNEW IT WAS BOTH INCORRECT AND IMPOSSIBLE.  I personally have never heard of this problem before and well, Google is shit for DDR200 recognize incorrect, etc.  Why would it matter I list the frequency?  DDR400 333MHz, PC2700. Doing so would be redundant.  On occasion, having asymmetrical amounts of RAM in a configuration in which the largest is in the first bay and the second in the second, can cause RAM to be detected strangely.  I think you just have no answer to this.

And why you wouldn't say "Try enabling legacy USB" instead of being an elitist asshole, baffles me.  I mean, even if your ego couldn't handle  that, you must be able to see the time and effort you would have saved in typing a single sentence (or no sentence at all.)  Granted, it wouldn't have helped at all.  But the thought would have been nice.

Really, what is your problem?  Why did you feel the need to go out of your way to be a jerk?  You're the people I hate on comp and /g/- too fucking good for everybody else, but god forbid you actually post something useful.

*sigh* this thread is made of so much fail and wasted effort.  Seriously, I'm getting reamed for having a USB keyboard?  A USB KEYBOARD?!  Really, maybe I'd understand if USB ports were at a premium and I didn't actually have you know, EIGHT of them.  Also, power consumption?  Yeah, I'm going to make my system unstable because of the negligible amount of power my damn keyboard takes.  Sorry I'm an idiot for wanting to read my keyboard at night so it's lighted.  I must be a complete fag.  Sorry I found my $5 PS/2 IBM keyboard uncomfortable to type on.  So since I have my keyboard hooked up, now I can only hook up...my mouse, my external hard drive...eerr, make that six of them.  All at once.  Hell, make that six USB fondue pots.  No, six USB calculators.  Just in case one breaks.

Now I remember why you don't post anything but shitty memes and e-penis threads in /comp/.

lol, miserably failed again.  You don't post here because you're a stupid git that doesn't know SCSI from his ass.  I can tell you didn't Google (DDR200 exists, you cock).  The rest of your numbers are wrong too, btw.

And so you don't get the wrong idea, you're not getting reamed for having a USB keyboard (they're pretty common, even if they do tend to suck).  You're getting reamed for being a stupid cuntmouth that expects to be spoon-fed all the answers by asking bad questions.

Haha, cunt.  Who uses that word anyway?

Well, long story short, rearranging the DIMMs /did/ fix the problem and I managed to fix a few other problems once I managed to find my old floppy disk drive and use the utilities in the floppies that came with my mobo.  Go figure.  My strong desire not to have to use them only became my downfall (80 sectors on each side!). I really didn't want to reformat, but I'm sick of trying to fix my OS issues so I guess I figure it'll be less hassle in the end if I do.  (fucking permissions being fucking borked)  Not too bad if I back up all of my app data and stuff so I don't have to re-do everything. Anyway,

QFT, douchebag.  I hope you die in an electrical fire, which!  Appears to be not entirely unlikely considering your uselessness.  Also, come up with your own comparisons; refer to my earlier posts in which a reference to both SCSI and asses was already in fact made! Haha!  Gotcha!  Well, you've been a fun toy and a really crappy troll, but sadly, time for this thread to die a horrible, horrible death.

Don't change these.
