I am going to buy a computer and I have about $700-$1,000 dollars to spend and the only thing I want for sure is an amd processor. Suggestions on what I should get, please.
Thank you, I have a few weeks to decide before I need to start buying.

forget AMD until they pull their fingers from their arses.
intel leads the way for now and there is next to zero savings when buying AMD these days...

Intel. As companies, both Intel and AMD suck for the same reasons, but lately, AMD has been sucking even more, and doesn't even offer better performance for the buck or better bucks for the performance.

A64's are cheap now. You can get an X2 3600+ for $65. Mine OC'ed to 2.8GHz easily. Probably doesn't compete with a E6400 at stock speed, but it cost less than half as much. And I'm set to get a K8L when AMD rolls those out.
Depends on whether you need/can afford Core2.
