Good brand of RAM?

Name: ee™ 2007-04-10 13:53 ID:89jzgGgf

Looking for a brand new stick of RAM. Know of a good brand, that isn't too high in price?

Kingston, Geil, OCZ, Mushkin, Samsung, GSkill, Corsair, Crucial, Elixir, Hynix, Infineon, Patriot, PNY, etc.  Take your pick, there are tons.  Just do yourself a favour and don't buy cheap RAM.  That's worse than buying a cheap power supply.  It'll go bad and cause all kinds of problems.

I trust Kingston, Corsair, Patriot, and OCz the most. Geil, Gskill and Crucial are good too.

I don't think Infineon, Hynix, or Elixir really sell their own RAM.

I've only heard of Kingston, Samsung, Corsair, and Hynix.. I heard that Kingston > Corsair, from some friends. Which do you prefer out of those two?

Kingston has been up there since, well, forever. A very solid brand, but fortunately there are others. Kingston, OCZ and Corsair  are absolute equals, then comes Patriot, Mushkin, etc... Sometimes you can find some unexpected jewels, like those Super Talent DDR2-800 modules everyone was talking about some time ago.

you do all realise that ALL ram is manufactured the same, it comes from about 3 factories worldwide
and then the companies buy that, and put their stickers / shitty 'cooling' crap on it
so just buy whatever the hell you want, itll all work the same

Well, not really.. My alienware pc has 512MB of RAM, and this other computer I have, about 2 years old almost has 768MB of RAM.. for some reason, my alienware runs faster than that.

Congratualtions, you don't understand semiconductor fabrication.

You actually paid Alienware money?  No wonder you didn't mention any telling numbers- you don't know what they are.
>>11
That still doesn't make you any more helpful.  Get dead.

Or I should say, they don't anymore. I have some Samsung and Infineon (and sum Asus!) brand stuff here in the office, but it's being used as decorations due to being ancient.

I trust Kingston, and haven't tried but would trust G.E.I.L., Buffalo and Corsair, and maybe PNY and Crucial.
