SATA hotswap

Name: Anonymous 2007-03-07 16:08 ID:O8Y42ROm

I just ordered a SATA drive and a hot-swap drive bay for it.
Now, I've heard that SATA drives are hot-swap capable, but I'm woundering on the specifics of it when running windows, and if there is anything I should be aware of about hot-swapping it.
I am running windows(I'm a gamer. Moment Linux can support ALL games, I'm there. Till than, I'll suffer), if that makes any difference in this matter.

You're running Windows, period. Let the fags go wild because you have the forbidden desire to game.
When you act so defensive, I feel like being an ass too.

Yeah, like didn't you notice that practically any game that comes out on the pc comes out on consoles?  And you spend half as much on a console as a gamer's pc?  Loser.

Google says yes.
Hot-Plug Capability: Parallel ATA is handicapped by its inability to support hot-plug drives ... With its support for hot-plug drives, SATA remedies this deficiency.

SATA is also hot-swappable meaning that devices can be added or removed while the computer is on (depends on OS features to detect new hardware after hot-swap).

Below is a highlight of the benefits on Serial ATA technology: Device can be hot swapped without shutting down or restarting the system

List goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on

I'll see your troll, and raise you some facts:
* It's easier to get warez'd games for a PC than for a console
* Legacy gaming is easier on a PC, this is especially true for stuff that needs emulators.
* A PC can be used for more than gaming. So you might have to buy a console AND a pc, if you don't want to use the PC for gaming.

"Moment Linux can support ALL games" Yes, it's somehow the OS that supports the game, not the other way around. I'll never figure out where this line of reasoning came from.

*Only for some consoles
*Wii
*Xbox, wii

The problem is with closed source computing platforms. DirectX was designed to trap developers into developing for itself and make it more difficult to change platforms; it is a natural consequence of proprietary closed source platforms. Games that depend upon DirectX won't run without it. That is why Wine exists; it exists to provide an open source implementation of the win32 and directx platforms to Linux.

Developers have a choice between OGL and DirectX. If they choose OpenGL, they can make their game multi-platform. Quake3, Doom3, Neverwinter Nights and Unreal Tournament 2004 all were made with OpenGL and had native linux versions. Microsoft nudges developers, but the developers ultimately decide whether their game will ruin on linux, windows, or any other OS.
