Few Questions for a new mac user

Hi, sorry to bother you all, but I have a few questions, and I've tried searching the forums but it's hard to find what I need.

I'm an animation student, and I know that a lot of art programs work much better on a mac. For this reason, I just purchased a 17" Macbook Pro with 3Gb of Ram. and The Tiger Operating System. I haven't got it yet, but it's on the way.
On to the questions!

I have an ipod nano, and I was wondering if I have to download drivers or anything else for it for the mac. Or can I just plug it in and go?
Also, if I bought Sims2, would it be able to run on the Tiger OS? I wasn't able to find that information on the net.
Is it possible to download the same things for the Mac as it is the PC, such as MSN messenger and Yahoo?
Also, is it still possible to purchase a warrenty after I've purchased the book?

First, a terminology correction - there is no 'Tiger OS'. The full name of the operating system you refer to is Mac OS X 10.4, which is codenamed Tiger. As for your questions:

1) Just plug it in.
2) There is an OS X version of the Sims 2 - search Google for '"OS X" "Sims 2"'.
3) Wikipedia says that iChat, which should come with your Mac, can do the two protocols you mentioned as well as AIM and a few others. Look for help files or pages via Google if you need more help with this.
4) You will have to ask Apple about that. I would think not, but I haven't owned a Mac in about a decade.

You can buy Applecare any time, but the coverage starts from the moment you bought the actual system.  Also, GET APPLECARE.  It's fucking osm.  Their tech support can sometimes be dicks, but all-in-all, it beats the crap out of most warranties.
