While I was at class this afternoon my wireless adapter suddenly found itself unable to connect to my router. I haven't had any problems before. The signal is just fine, it just can't get an IP address assigned from the router. The router is a linksys wrt54g and the wireles adapter is an old compaq ipaq usb adapter.

Run> command > ipconfig /all

Firefox runs seamlessly on a myriad of wireless equipment.

Wait.. you where at school? is your home near?
if you where at school and your home is not like in the same building, you probably did not find your router, but another like it.
If so, there is a high chance that router is brodcasting it's SSID but it's not acting as a DHCP or it's not assigning ip adresses automaticly.
You can try to set your IP adress manually.

If you acually ment you where at home, i would just restart the router by removing the powerplug and then put it back in.

I've already fucked with ipconfig to no avail.

Cycling the router functions like ze goggles. Also, the computer isn't a laptop. No way in hell I'm carrying 2 CRTs around with me. I know when it happened due to IRC logs.

Also, wireless status shows that no packets are being received from the router. I'd just use a cable to connect to the router, but I can't find my spindle of cat-5 to make one long enough.

Well, it's apparent that the problem is not with the router. DS connects to it just fine.

Use Linux and your wireless problems will go away.

Because your wireless won't work!!!!!

Nope, because Gentoo Linux has an ebuild for Opera which drops i to /opt; this means you can run Opera; this means all of your problems, wireless or not, are solved.

software does not go in /opt period see Linux Standard Base guideline. Userland software goes in /usr/bin. Fucking idiots.

Opera fails for non-standard install location, and faggy browser besides.

1.13. /opt
This directory is reserved for all the software and add-on packages that are not part of the default installation. For example, StarOffice, Kylix, Netscape Communicator and WordPerfect packages are normally found here. To comply with the FSSTND, all third party applications should be installed in this directory.

Nice try troll. We already discussed that here. Your con-FHS arguments were rebutted and was decided that pro-FHS won the debate.

>old compaq ipaq usb adapter.
you probably answered your own question, will the adapter connect to any other network and get an IP?

Who the fuck decided what? And I know there's at least another guy here who hates the FHS, because some posts weren't mine.

Also, FHS is shit.

I was able to get to to connect when plugged into another system. I'm gonna try resetting the reg-keys and reinstalling the drivers.

Name: haet linksys 2007-03-05 23:18 ID:bJI4KOhx

reinstalling and resetting hasn't worked. Since I know the adapter still functions properly, I'm certain that windows is just being itself; shit. I've disabled security on the router to see fi that might have somehow caused problems, but no dice. Any possible solutions to fixing the problem aside from "lol, use linux fag."

fighting the truth doesn't make you a rebel if the truth is good.

Name: haet linksys 2007-03-18 17:21 ID:7WY4Fvns

lol, seems the problem stems from my USB hub. I changed the plug it was hooked up to and it suddenly started receiving packets.

Use Opera, problem solved.
