While I was at class this afternoon my wireless adapter suddenly found itself unable to connect to my router. I haven't had any problems before. The signal is just fine, it just can't get an IP address assigned from the router. The router is a linksys wrt54g and the wireles adapter is an old compaq ipaq usb adapter.

Wait.. you where at school? is your home near?
if you where at school and your home is not like in the same building, you probably did not find your router, but another like it.
If so, there is a high chance that router is brodcasting it's SSID but it's not acting as a DHCP or it's not assigning ip adresses automaticly.
You can try to set your IP adress manually.

If you acually ment you where at home, i would just restart the router by removing the powerplug and then put it back in.
