I want XP back

So after I ran a game on Windows Vista it became readily apparent that I either needed a better video card or I needed to keep XP around. Since I'm feeling cheap I decided on the latter. Unfortunately due to a run in with Linux and a few other bad mistakes I managed to kill the partition on the hard drive that XP was running on. The hard drive is fine but XP is no more. I tried to reinstall it but it can't seem to find any of my partitions from the XP installer. Is it possible that it won't let me install because Vista is on the other hard drive and it's newer? Anyway, I'd really like to get XP back and I figured I'd ask you guys what I should do.

Use gparted-livecd (or liveusb) and kill all partitions.
If you want to save time, also create a new NTFS-poartition, so XP won't have to format it again.

You could always create a new partition with Partition Magic and install XP there, but then XP I think would subscribe your MBR and you would have to configure your boot loader manually.
