When I try to save an image from Firefox, for example, and I save it on my desktop, there's two My Computer icons. They both seem to take you to the same location. What gives? It's really annoying.

Your ntldr file has gotten too big. This happens sometimes with windows XP especially. You can fix this by compressing it.
First, find the file C:\ntldr
Right click on it, and select properties.
Then, click "Advanced".
A new window should pop up.
Look for a checkbox that says "Compress contents..." and make sure it is checked.
Then, apply the new settings. They won't take effect until you reboot.

You probably have one real My Computer icon, and one which is just a shortcut to it. Find the shortcut (with the arrow on the icon) and delete it.

Okay, so it turns out the extra icon is a shortcut. I deleted it, and it removed the My Computer icon from my desktop. How can I put an icon on my desktop without having two of them appear on the save window?

Control panel > Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Desktop Icons > check "My Computer" > kill self
