OS on SATA over IDE?

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-14 11:27

Hi there /comp/ , I wonder if you could tell me how much difference installing Windows XP on an SATA drive would make over installing it on an IDE, performance wise?

I currently have windows installed on an IDE drive, along with all my games, but I am considering reinstalling it on an SATA drive I recently bought. I kind of can't be bothered, though, and I won't do it if its not going to make much of a performance difference.

sata's a kabillion times faster than ide.  very useful if you access the primary hard drive a lot.  such as if you're generating a bajillion temp files or regularly using virtual memory on the primary drive.

makes a more significant difference for media heavy games and programs than the OS itself in most cases.  keep the OS on the IDE and just install new shit on the SATA, you'll be fine.

Ok, I'll do that, thanks.

Reinstalling Windows takes such a bloody long time, I am happy to have a justification to not bother.
