Font display in Linux

Noob here.  What's the deal with how the fonts looks in Linux?  It's all blurry...

in Linux?  please elaborate further.  Linux is an OS, not a font rendering library.

Blurry? Depends on your monitor. Are you used to horribly aliased Windows fonts? That could be your problem.

Frankly, Linux distros could use MUCH better font anti-aliasing, but there are some patches out there that you can install that will make them pretty damn close to how OS X smooths its fonts. Unfortunately, those patches contain some possibly patented code, so it's technically illegal. But, who the fuck cares about that shit...

....which explains why a lot more people don't use it, as choosing a particular distro of it is like entering a fucking lottery, not at all helped by the rabid fanboys screaming that their chosen version is the only way to go, noob.
