Thumbnails not loading in large folders

In windows 2k sometimes the explorer will stop creating thumbs in folders with a large number of images (such as my /b/ folders.)  How can I make it load thumbnails for the rest of the images in the folder.  Any advice?

Well it seems I found the problem one (possibly 3) files had an unknown error that would cause explorer to hang and have to closed and restarted manually.  Although this only affected thumbnail creation, all other explorer functions worked. 

Anyhow I removed the errant files and now all works as normal.

Further note: I was able to repair the files simply by opening in GIMP and re-saving them as jpegs.

Good way to destroy any quality.

Its that, or just delete them.  Not like I care that much about a few image macros anyway.  Although one of them was pretty funny.

Or stop using explorer, since hanging because of possibly corrupt files is pretty shitty.
Or before resaving them, make backups of the files to *.jpeg.broken so explorer doesn't try to make thumbnails (or put the backups in a zip or whatever).
