XP install hangs

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-31 15:07

So, /comp/, I have the infamous XP hang at "setup is starting Windows" during install.  I just RMA'd the board for an EPox EP-M570SLI, AMD 64 X2 4200+ 65W, 2 gig Corsair DDR2800, Thermaltake 700W Toughpower, Seagate SATA 250 gig, Foxconn 7950GT, XP x64 Pro.  Put the latest nForce RAID drivers on a USB floppy, turned off everything unnecessary, the RAM is on pass 3 of Memtest 86+ right now with no errors, the board shipped with the latest version of the BIOS, and XP install still hangs.  If I don't load the RAID drivers, I get a BSOD instead of a hang, and Googling the stop code does nothing.  Should I RMA the CPU?  Anything else I can do?

Recommend a build?  My buddy got a Gnoppix lived cd to load, but Knoppix and PC-BSD install discs didn't.  I'm not a Linux guy, so I don't know what to make of that.

I'll switch once I finish Oblivion and NWN2.

Devices connected are 1. RAM, 2. CD-ROM, 3. HDD, 4. USB floppy, 5. graphics card (no on-board chip).  Memtest made it to 16 passes, no errors, before I killed it (don't remember wall time).  I think the only thing I can turn off is USB, but I don't know how much I trust Windows SATA drivers at this point.

Thanks for the help, Anonymous.
