When trying to download something, clicking a link that ends with .zip immediately tries to download and open the file (which is a pain in the ass, 'cause it won't show the file size or how much it's downloaded etc etc.)
At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what the hell do I do to fix this? It's been doing this shit for about a year; I've checked IE settings multiple times and there doesn't seem to be a setting shown for this. (in before "hurr get a new browser" and "delete your system32 folder)

That's usually what I'd do, but there are times when it won't let me do that; as in, automated downloads that you click the download button ("Go" for instance) and it immediately just starts trying to open the file.
Some of you guys suck at answering questions. ("Use another browser" "Use LINUX" "Blow a dog")
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. (For earlier Windows, click Start, Folder Options.)
2. Double-click Folder Options.
3. Click the File Types tab.
4. Scroll down to and click the .zip extension. (Could be listed as WinZip file.)
5. Click Advanced. (For earlier Windows, click Edit.)
6. Verify that "Confirm open after download" is selected (put checkmark in little box by clicking).
Japanese are superior! US should have allied with them and kicked Chink & Soviet butt together until there be non left. Also with coupled effort of best US and Japanese scientist we could have developed all manner of nuclear and biological weapons before anyone else. Then we could have brought Germany to it's knees with nukes integrate it to our empire, stole their cool uniforms and make Swastika symbol of true freedom. Brits would be integrated to our empire with their noble elite executed. After all is done we should slave Africa, make our own empire into libertarian dictatorship and proclaim ourselves gods. Finally we should focus on making our superior white and Japanese races into immortal machine men, start conquering space, breed cat eared shota and loli sex slaves etc. It would have been most awesome and decadent nation ever. Superior to anything, even Ancient Romans and Greeks.
Have you looked for an option in the "advanced" tab of "internet options" that's called "notify when downloads complete"? If that's unchecked that may be your problem...but I use Windows 2000 so I don't know if that was changed for XP.
